Dr. Bethany Huebner, PT, DPT, PhD, SCS, MTC

Dr. Huebner received her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Health Professions Education from Bellarmine University in 2022, her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Indiana University in 2009, and her Bachelor's degree in Biology from The University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2006. She teaches courses related to curriculum design and teaching practice within the PhD program. She also serves as a dissertation chair. Dr. Huebner graduated from the ProRehab and University of Evansville's Sports Residency program in 2010. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in sports through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She also received her manual therapy certification through Evidence in Motion's program in 2014. Dr. Huebner's research interest is in injury prevention through individualized and group training and physical therapy education, emphasizing feedback for learning.

Dr. Matsel is a physical therapist and clinical researcher who received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Evansville in 2011 and his PhD in rehabilitation sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2021. He teaches courses related to evidence-based practice in education, academic writing, and dissertation proposal in the PhD program. His research interests are in the identification of musculoskeletal injury risk factors and the implementation of arm care exercise programs for baseball players. Additionally, Dr. Matsel presents nationally on evidence-based topics related to comprehensive, systematic movement-based assessment and testing.

Dr. Phil Plisky, PT, DSc, ATC, CSCS

Dr. Plisky received his B.S. and Master of Physical Therapy degrees from the University of Evansville. He earned a Doctor of Science degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 25 years’ experience and is a board-certified clinical specialist in orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He teaches within the Thriving in Higher Education course in the PhD curriculum. He has published 35 original research articles in leading scientific journals, 60 peer-reviewed scientific presentations, several book chapters, and has lectured internationally on injury prevention and field expedient movement testing. Dr. Plisky has received multiple research grants totaling over 3 million dollars from federal and private agencies for performance and injury prevention studies. His current research is focused on comprehensive movement and performance testing and interventions in athletes and military personnel. He is a performance systems consultant with numerous collegiate and professional teams and the US military. In addition, he serves as a manuscript reviewer for several scientific journals. He is actively engaged in patient care in his own private practice in Evansville, Indiana, and is the Director of U.E. Residency Programs.

Dr. Schwartzkopf is a physical therapist and clinical researcher who received her Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Evansville in 2007, transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Regis University in 2009, and PhD in rehabilitation sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2017. She teaches courses related to research design and quantitative analysis in the PhD program. Her research interests include injury prevention, performance outcomes in active females, and fitness programming for individuals with disabilities.

Dr. Jason Pitt, PhD

Dr. Pitt teaches Advanced Quantitative Research in the HPE PhD program. He graduated from UE in 2007 and earned his PhD in Neuroscience from Northwestern University in 2012. His graduate and postdoctoral work centered around the cell biology and physiology of neurodegenerative diseases and was supported by several federal and institutional grants. His current academic interests are in educational research (e.g., retrieval practice) and writing about the nervous system.
